Are You Involved With A Psychopath?
Forget the idea of serial rapists and mass murderers in the form of scruffy, losers hiding in the shadows. Social psychopaths are out there in full force and their mission is to wreak havoc on your life. They can be anyone, your doctor, lawyer, your minister and even your boss. They may appear smooth, charming and attentive when you first meet them. They are able to bond with you and quickly win your affection. But once they have you in their web of deceit, they'll use you as a pawn to further their own agenda while leaving you frazzled, emotionally and sometimes even financially drained. Much of the emotional mess left in society can be attributed to psychopaths who seem normal enough on the surface, but are something altogether different once you get to know them. As much as 3 to 5% of the population can be diagnosed as social psychopaths. Everyone Knows a Psychopath Almost everyone has encountered one. Think back to a time in your life when you've had to deal with someone who was particularly difficult. They constantly lied, manipulated people to get their own way, took pleasure in putting down or humiliating others. They could be cold and detached most of the time, but then all of a sudden, interested and concerned about your well-being. They are sexually promiscuous and unfaithful. They become bored easily, are reckless and are always looking for a thrill. Once you get to know them, they make you feel tense and jittery when they walk into the room. You're a Pawn in Their Game Social psychopaths have no regard for the feelings of others. They simply see people as the instruments through which to get what they want. They feel superior to and will blame other people for their mistakes. They feel they are entitled to whatever they want and will manipulate people and compulsively lie to get their way. Dealing with a psychopath is inevitably a losing situation. Because they have no conscience and show no remorse, they are not inhibited from hurting others. They cannot be reasoned with, nor does conventional therapy or drugs seem to work in curing this disorder. All you can do is to detach yourself emotionally when you encounter one. Having dealt with the aftermath of various levels of relationships with psychopaths, I wanted to warn people that they do exist and they walk among us as seemingly normal members of society. If you've had one turn your life upside down, know that you are not alone. Don't beat yourself up over what has occured, you're not to blame for the situation. Educate yourself on the warning signs and don't let yourself get involved with one. Find Help if You're Romantically Involved If you've been unfortunate enough to become romatically involved with a social psychopath, you must leave the relationship. There is no reforming this person as they will only change their ways as long as it suits them, then they will be right back to their old ways.
